You wanna know the coolest thing about Minecraft? It’s the potential for the idea of world building to be implemented into a genre that’s not traditionally associated with such depth of strategy. It’s the kind of core that could translate to other titles in a way that encourages everyday folk to actualise mission-building wish fulfilment and combine it with a shooter experience.
This is exactly what StarForge is aiming for and, best of all, instead of talking about some future release with a concept video, this game trailer coincides with the launch of the first playable build of the game. You won’t want to download it from the official website at the moment, though, as it’s getting fairly hammered. The description of the YouTube trailer is your current best bet to get a taste of StarForge if you like what you see (via alternative download sources).
For me, the most impressive feature is the potential of what’s yet to come: to see what happens when players start making worlds and videos of their own, implicitly challenging each other to create the next ‘wow’ thing.
