Even console-loving gamers who’ve yet to play DayZ are raving to me about the Arma II mod that’s captured the attention and imagination of the gaming world. Just as there seemed to be a movement away from ‘samey’ zombie titles, the DayZ mod came out of nowhere to wow PC gamers (and beyond, it seems) with the potential of how a realistic core title could be merged with a persistent world overrun with the undead for addictive results.
While DayZ’s creator Dean Hall continues to mess around with his mod’s formula during the alpha test, Bohemia Interactive Studio has dropped another tech video to show off some of the pretty from its Real Virtuality 4 engine that’s powering Arma III. The ‘Lighting Showcase’ trailer illuminates the lighting tech component of the engine and the narrating developer talks about how it influences gameplay.
I have yet to fully sink my fangs into DayZ in a meaningful way and have been advised to come back to it further down the track when it’s a little more stable, but from what I’ve seen, heard and played to date, I’m already looking forward the seemingly inevitable DayZ iteration for Arma III with this sort of lighting technology behind it.
