Before there was a Tim Schafer-faced Kickstarter project for an unnamed Double Fine Productions point-and-click adventure game, there were rumblings of another Double Fine game from the mind of another Monkey Island veteran.
Today, that same company that is publishing the delayed Aliens: Colonial Marines, SEGA, has sent through word that a game “from the mind of Ron Gilbert” will be available for digital download early next year on PC and consoles. The game is simply entitled ‘The Cave’ and requires players to assemble a team of three adventurers, each with their own personalised skillset and quirks. Players will be able to choose from seven weird and wonderful characters: twins (apparently they count as one), a knight, a monk, an adventurer, a hillbilly, a scientist and, of course, a time-traveller.
Ron Gilbert had this to say in the official press release. “The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game. I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”
Which Double Fine game are you more excited for: Ron Gilbert’s The Cave or Tim Schafer’s yet-to-be-named point-and-click adventure game?
