Gaming and television meet in Syfy and Trion's Defiance

Defiance is set to cross the boundaries between television drama and online gaming - and it looks pretty neat!

Well, this one snuck in under the radar, but man, has Defiance got me super-intrigued.

So, it's a TV show, coming from Syfy - the same guys who gave us Battlestar Galactica and Stargate: Universe - and it's a game, a massively multiplayer shooter from Trion Worlds, the guys behind RIFT. It's post-apocalyptic science fiction that depicts Earth post alien invasion, with a cast of genre stars, some great effects pedigree, and - even better - the events in game and show will cross over.

Is it just me, or is that just a little bit cool?

(Also, is it just me, or is it just a little bit wankerish to watch Australian actor Grant Bowler put on an American accent for his to camera pieces?)

Check out this trailer, and keep an eye on our upcoming E3 reportage when we'll be getting hands-on time with the game.
