Not so long ago, Payday: The Heist developer Overkill Software was bought out by Starbreeze Studios. This was an awesome accolade for Overkill as Starbreeze Studios has, as far as I’m concerned, gone four for four with their most recent titles: two Riddick games, The Darkness and Syndicate. The Overkill buyout was followed by the suggestion that it would be working on a Payday sequel and the news that it would be aiding Starbreeze with Project Mercury and V13.
More important than this particularly exciting announcement, though, is the fresher news that Overkill will be taking part in a “co-operative initiative” between Valve’s Left 4 Dead and Payday: The Heist. Yes. Please! Ulf Andersson, game director at Overkill, had this to say by way of official statement.
“As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into PAYDAY The Heist, which has led to various rumors. We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between OVERKILL and Valve is currently in production.
We are working on a very cool blend of PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check[ing] into the hospital before we are done.”
Colour me officially excited. What would you like to see as the end result of this type of collaboration?
