So let's get the important stuff out of the way. Yes, Diablo III is good fun, quite possibly worth the wait, and as addictive and mouse-punishing as ever. I can also tell you that my hand isn't what it used to be - I was getting cramps two hours in.
Time for some exercise.
Thankfully... Blizzard's Battle.net service, the hub around which Diablo III operates, is down as of writing (though could well be up by the time you read this). It's no doubt to do with the huge frustration of gamers being unable to log in for over an hour at launch, and Blizzard's response of dumping their forums and bringing more servers online to deal with the in-rush.
As I - possibly rather angrily - said last night, this is the one big issue with making your game online only in such a fundemental way. If you misjudge the server pop, or need to do maintenance, the game becomes just so much useless code.
However, the frustration did fuel possibly the fastest meme evolution ever, as Error 37 (the 'try again, servers are dying' error) trended heavily on Twitter, and showed up in news stories, animated gifs, lolcats and more. One enterprising soul even got a site up and running - www.error37.com - but it crashed under the load soon after.
Ironic.
It appears to be fine now.
Which is more than I can say for Diablo III... it's now not even launching. Sigh...
