The Company of Heroes 2 cat is already out of the bag, so today's official release may lack a certain impact. But, it does come with the usual super-positive quotes from the good folks at Relic and THQ, and - more importantly - a first screen.
And hoo-boy! What a screen!
We've got a very sexy shot of two T-34 tanks duking it out with what looks like a Panzer III, each backed up by a couple of squads of infantry. No sign of the interface yet, but the engine itself is certainly worlds ahead of Company of Heroes - in fact, it's looking a lot more like Dawn of War II, though even more detailed.
Also on show is the environmental desctruction, which is touted as a big part of the gameplay. Taking place on the Russian Front, this should have a big impact on the game - the East saw some of the worst city-fighting of the entire war.
“Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success," said Greg Wilson, Producer at Relic Entertainment, in today's release.
Lookin' good, Greg.
Worth noting - next week, we'll have some interview time with Relic bods about CoH2, so keep an eye on the forums for some community question requests!
