It’s no secret that I’ve been rather jaded by the RTS genre since the release of Company of Heroes. That game broke me… in a very, very good way. Company of Heroes showed that real-time-strategy games could be more than just insert-generic-unit-name-here rushes. In short, I’ve found it difficult to get excited about RTS ever since because I wanted to play more games of the Company of Heroes style than the traditional RTS formula.
According to a sneaky PC Gamer cover photo at Neogaf, Company of Heroes 2 is in development. Game Informer has followed up the cover leak by contacting THQ that said they would share more details soon. We’ve contacted local PR for an official comment, but our local PR rep has nothing official to add, except I can say that Atomic might have more to say about Company of Heroes 2 later this month.
User V-Ben who posted the Neogaf scan provided some scant details along with the cover photo, including a 2013 release and the interesting point that the main campaign will be played from a Russian perspective on the Eastern Front. In light of the setting, snow plays a big role and will slow down both troops and tanks, but can also be used as cover, while troops will be able to vault over certain types of cover.
Are you as excited by the prospect of another Company of Heroes game as I am?
