Samsung Galaxy S III quad-core processor is confirmed

The silicon brain powering Sammy's upcoming pocket powerhouse is officially revealed

Samsung's Exynos 4 Quad processor has long been rumoured to grace the innards of the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III, and the Korean tech giant has now confirmed that this will indeed be the case.

Touted as consuming 20 per cent less power than the previous chip generation, the 1.4GHz quad-core Eynos processor has already shown itself to pack more power than its Snapdragon dual-core and Tegra 3 quad-core competitors in purportedly leaked benchmarks, meaning the Galaxy S III should chew through Ice Cream Sandwich with ease.

The new Exynos 4 Quad chip is also directly compatible with the processor pins found in the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note, though we wouldn't recommend cracking either of those open for a DIY brain swap just yet.
