The Battlefield franchise has always been renowned for its sprawling outdoor environments and epic vehicular battles. Then, with Battlefield 3, DICE flipped the script somewhat and toyed with those expectations, particularly via the Operation Métro map: the map that DICE was ballsy enough to include as the first hands-on map in the alpha and beta. Suffice it to say, that decision and the map is and was somewhat divisive in the community.
I don’t really get the division, though. For me, Operation Métro showed that DICE was able to deliver a compelling infantry-on-infantry combat experience. For Battlefield 3’s next round of DLC, ‘Close Quarters’, DICE continues to push the envelope on the infantry-on-infantry front, as the latest Close Quarters trailer shows.
Players can expect tight level design and vertical gameplay that’s complemented by new weapons, unique dog tags and those dastardly addictive assignments. Although a specific date has yet to be announced, Close Quarters will be released on PC in June… one week after it’s released on PS3.
