Why hasn’t this been done before? Seriously. If any game lends itself to a graphic novel adaptation, it’s the comic-fuelled noir setting of Max Payne. Sure, the first two games were released quite some time ago, but you may have heard that there’s a third entry scheduled for release on the 18th of May that offers Rockstar another opportunity to convert Max Payne to graphic novel form.
And convert it they have.
In an announcement on its Newswire page, Rockstar confirms a partnership with Marvel Custom Solutions to release a three-part “original Max Payne 3 comic series”. Vice president of Rockstar Games and Max Payne 3 writer Dan House, along with founding member of Remedy Entertainment Sam Lake (who also wrote the first two Max Payne games and was the face model for Max Payne) have joined forces to take on writing duties. On the all-important visual front, Greg Horn (X-Men Universe) is responsible for the cover art, while Fernando Blanco is handling the pencils and inks.
The three-part series is set to act as a backstory for Max Payne, as it explores events occurring in and around the first two games, and even further into Max’s troubled past. The first issue, After the Fall, is slated for digital release on an undisclosed date over the next few weeks via Rockstar Newswire, Max Payne 3’s official website and other digital comic channels.
No word yet on release dates for the limited print editions.
