Whilst travelling the vast Interwebs, we stumbled on a neat little project that has had surprisingly little attention drawn to it. The project is called SnapNPlay, an Android app currently under development which can interpret and play sheet music by simply taking a picture!
The app appears simple to use, but does require a little bit of setup before taking the picture. For instance, you need to select the key, clef, and optionally the tempo of the music you're about to snap. Once that's done, you can play back what sounds like a MIDI rendition of the music.
The developer has uploaded a few examples, including Otis in Disneyland, which we've embedded below.
As you can see, the UI isn't particularly polished at this stage, but we expect that will be dealt with before launching in May.
