Roll up, roll up, for NBN Co's announcement of their three year rollout plan! Try your luck to win ultra fast Internets!
Every time we hear news about the NBN, we can't help but feel like we're part of one big lucky dip. If your suburb gets selected, it won't be long until you can bask in high-speed Internet glory - provided you can afford the equally exuberant fibre plans.
You can check out NBN Co's rollout map right here to see if you're one of the lucky suburbs. You can also go straight to the rollout page with PDF and spreadsheet files containing detailed rollout information and statistics between 1 April 2012 and 30th June 2015.
The National Broadband Network has geeks drooling for the added bandwidth it provides. The fibre to the home network provides a 100Mbps download rate with an appropriate broadband plan, putting it at about the speed of the DOCSIS 3.0 cable standard. These downlink rates will only increase as demand calls for it, given the advances in fibre transmission technology, and the willingness of NBN Co to upgrade the network.
Current equipment being rolled out uses passive optical networking (PON) technology with a downlink rate of 2.5Gbps. However this is split between 16 and 32 homes, potentially limiting the maximum bandwidth of a single premise.
