Hope springs eternal for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Hope springs eternal for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

A morsel of news about the next entry in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

It’s been five years since GSC Game World released the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, Shadow of Chernobyl. Since then there has been a prequel (Clear Sky) and a sequel (Call of Pripyat). Despite the presence of more bugs than full stops in the game title, the series has enjoyed popularity and a cult status on the PC.

But a proper multiplatform sequel, tentatively titled S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, with an all-new engine was announced in August 2010 and scheduled for release in 2012.

Time has not been kind to GSC Game World, though, with reports of a possible closure rearing its ugly head in December 2011. Despite this and the announcement that we wouldn’t see the game in 2012, GSC Game World has announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is still very much in the works. The announcement came via one of the most reputable of online communication channels: Twitter.

According to a translation of their recent Tweets, GSC had this to say, “To answer the multitude of questions we’ve been getting, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is currently in development, yes. However there is no release date yet.”

As to why GSC Game World has been quiet about the specifics of why development has taken longer than expected, “There are legal reasons why we have not made an ‘official’ statement.” Ominous.

Are you hanging out for another S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game or do you think that the Metro series is the new kid on the post-apocalyptic block?
