Toshiba launches new Windows tablet in Australia

The Atom-powered Toshiba WT200 will be Windows 8-capable and is being geared towards businesses.

Toshiba today launched its WT200 tablet to Australian businesses, homing in on fears around data security with mobility in corporate environments.

The company is selling the Windows 7 tablet as delivering maximum security and connectivity.

“Organisations can be assured that data is kept secure with the highest levels of data network security .. making it the perfect secure mobile device for corporate and government organisations,” said Toshiba’s product manager Justin White in a statement.

“It offers seamless compatibility with an in-office desktop environment and gives users access to all the essential applications, software and security that business users need on the move.”

The tablet will be sold for $999 through Toshiba resellers at the end of March and general retail from April. Toshiba has promised an upgrade to Windows 8 when the operating system is released later this year.

It features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 CPU, built-in 3G, a 64GB SSD, 2GB RAM, 3MP back camera and 1.3MP on the front, and a 3 cell 2700mAh lithium-Ion battery.

It also boasts an SD card slot, micro HDMI USB 2.0 and Mini USB 2.0. It tips the scales at under 800g and is 14mm thick.

The thought of being well out to sea in this overpriced tinny, hoping that someone will sail over the horizon with a W8 upgrade has me salivating.

Where can I get one?

How can we judge if it is overpriced - before pricing is even released?

Smells to me like just a shade shy of a grand.

Generally when articles put a $ sign in front of a number that usually indicates a price, though as usual they fail to state what currency they are talking about.

When the ARM edition of Windows 8 is released this tablet would be a very hard sell for corporates.
