Well, this one's from left field. I can't imagine anyone ever thinking "I love Total War, but man I wish I could play it on the go..." But someone has, and Creative Assembly's bringing the goods. On April 19, Total War Battles: Shogun, will launch on the iTunes App Store and the Android Marketplace.
Pigs are now flying.
Mike Simpson, Creative Director, said in today's release, “We’re thrilled to bring Total War’s compelling real-time battles to mobile devices. We’ve designed a fresh new interface, combat mechanics and visuals specifically for mobile platforms through the Unity engine. Players will face absorbing new tactical challenges across an extensive narrative-driven campaign, with numerous side missions to explore.”
The game is not a port, but a reimagining of the series to suit smaller mobile devices. From the screens just released, it looks to be a much more colourful, hex-based version of Total War, but it'll still be all about getting the right building upgrades in place, and recruiting the right units as you fight to take control of the Shogunate. The game features a ten hour campaign, bonus missions, and shared screen mulitplayer.
You know... this actually looks pretty neat.
