Retro tech: Acoustic Signature Ascona turntable

Retro tech: Acoustic Signature Ascona turntable

If you're going to listen to an LP, do it in style. Preferably on something that's worth more than your car.

Introducing Acoustic Signature's new 15th anniversary Ascona turntable from the legendary German engineering team at Acoustic-Signature.

Weighing in at a whopping 80KG and featuring a 50mm thick solid aluminium platter with a 350mm diameter, the Ascona also has solid brass silencer inserts to reduce audio resonance. Chuck in some ultra-low noise and low friction self-lubricating bronze inserts and you have yourself a turntable that will be spinning records perfectly, long after you've passed on.

On the downside, it costs US$34,000. Sure you could just stick to your iPod, or you can take out a second mortgage and treat your ears and eyes to some class. Just remember to get a sound system to go along with it, lest you end up with a very expensive potter's wheel.

I know a chap who made a similar one - similarly ove-engineered in the '80s.

It worked very well. It alsot visually dominated the listening room as this one would...

Absolute beauty! Can be purchased with one tonearm too. With two arms you can compare two cartridges or two amplification systems. Pity our youngsters with their i-things do not know what LP stands for or what does it sound like. By the way photohounds, similar 'monster' is produced in Melbourne. I do not know how many has been sold so far.
