Next-gen console graphics revealed by Konami

Next-gen console graphics revealed by Konami

Reality and games are blurring – we found it hard to tell which is which in these real vs. fake photos.

Let's play a little game of spot the difference. Two of the pics of the rather dull boardroom above are real, two of them were generated using Konami's new Fox Engine. It's the images on the right.

Now look below. There’s a horse generated using the Fox Engine. A little out of place in a boardroom, perhaps – but imagine riding around on that in the breathtaking scenery of Red Dead Redemption. Microsoft purportedly has the Xbox 720 Durango in London right now, and is showing off its capabilites to games developers.

Too easy. Seats don't like right in both images (too flat and no substance to them). Lighting is wrong.

Not bad though and if you had this type of graphics in an FPS or similar fast paced game you wouldn't notice the small issues.

That is awesome, but you will notice that in the rendered images the lighting and shadows have harder edges, this is a tell-tale sign of rendering due the extra time it takes for softer edges to be rendered.

Right one is rendered. While the seats may be square, that is what they might be like in real life. It was the metal bar on teh table that gave it away. It is a regular glare on the right one, not varied for angle.
