Google Glasses coming this year?

The lines between reality and the virtual world are about to blur.

Google-Glasses

Google Glasses, with augmented reality heads-up-display lenses, could be coming this year. Just like Terminator, Robocop or Predator – simply looking at a landmark will bring up everything you want to know about it – but with less 80s action flick violence ensuing.

Google plans to release its glasses, according to The New York Times’ Google employee sources, packing an Android OS, 4G connection, and a range of sensors including GPS.

Google Glasses will use a small, low-resolution camera to record the world you see and overlay information you want controlled by subtle head movements.

The price seems to be guesswork with a range from US$250 to US$600. This is likely because Google isn’t planning the release as a business venture but more of a hobbyist experiment. Is this all Google research for virtual reality contact lenses? We hope so.

And couple that tech with this: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9224458/Ubuntu_Android_add_on_designed_to_replace_PCs

Result?
Walk up to any 'unoccupied' PC, at home, in the mall, an aircraft or at work and your basic computing needs could well be satisfied. Next stop, the home entertainment system and the car?

Who'd want that? Just about bl**dy well everyone I'd guess! The possibilities are amazing!

Of course someone might not be too happy as it wsn't their iDea. TOUGH

... target acquired (list of parameters appears in the eyeScreen :).)

Photo,

You couldn't resist the unwarranted dig at Apple could you?

Google probably stole it from someone else, per previous track record! There, my unwarranted dig back!

TOUGH mate ...

This EYE sensing has been around for ages (some '80s cameras used it to control focus), no doubt there are patents for all the tech used, but one cannot deny, even in a delirium of idol-worship that the IDEA is very clever indeed.

Maybe the Terminator will want a cut, but my memory is that the tech in question was built into his eyes NOT his glasses. Those glasses were pinched from an earth bikie and were used merely to conceal the visible results of his eye self-surgery. Anyone concur or do I have to watch it tonight ... ?

The possibilities of the fusion of these two technologies ARE amazing and will "change everything, again", but this time those words may actually be more than a marketing slogan.

"Good artists borrow, Great artists STEAL." Words I borrowed from a former Deity, apparently.
