To say Sony is proud of its new Balanced Armature (BA) in-ear headphone range is something of an understatement.
According to Sony Australia's training manager Nicholas Villani: "they're the greatest headphones you are ever going to hear."
The Sony representative made these bold claims at the company's hardware showcase today, where guests were invited to check out the latest Sony products. Despite the impressive range of products unveiled (including the Sony Xperia S smartphone and a 4K projector), the company opted to save its headphones for last.

The headphones have micro-size BA drivers with the ability to combine full-range, woofer, tweeter and super-woofer units.
Sony's new micro-size BA drivers are a quarter of the size of conventional 13.5mm dynamic drivers but have a similar level of sensitivity, providing a deeper and richer audio over a broader sound range.
There are 11 new models in all, ranging from the entry-level Sony XBA-1 (which uses one single balanced armature driver per side) to the Sony XBA-S65 (a sports-flavored model that is water-resistant and washable). You can check out the full range in the graph at the bottom of this article.
The BA range is able to combine full-range, woofer, tweeter and super-woofer units.
"The new range of Sony BA headphones offer an advanced listening experience, cutting down on external noise and improving music quality,” said Alistair Miranda, Product Manager, Personal Audio, Sony Australia.
“These new models will forever change the way music is appreciated by catering to individual specific needs. They are arguably the best headphones Sony has ever produced.”
We're used to vendor's making tall claims like this, although in this case, Sony is prepared to put its money where its mouth is.
"We are so convinced people are going to love these headphones that we are – for the first time – offering a moneyback guarantee on them," Villani said. "So if you buy them and are not completely convinced, we will give you your money back."
We were given a brief demo of the new headphones in action during today's Sony Sessions event, and can attest to their supurb audio quality. Naturally, pricing is pretty premium, with the cheapest model retailing for just under $100.
The Sony Balanced Armature (BA) in-ear headphone range will be available from March, with prices ranging between $99.95 and $549.95. Stay tuned for a proper review, coming soon.
