Get ready for the NBN

This month's issue explores the A-Z of the NBN. You've already read about the politics, but what about the hardware? How will your home connect? We've also spoken to home cablers who gave us inside tips about getting your home network up to scratch. A useful primer for anyone who wants to prepare for the future and what faster broadband might mean for your home.

Smartphones - 19 tested and rated

The essentials

Mice, graphics, tablets, keyboards, earbuds, routers....each month we tell you what's useful, and what you shouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Demo: Revenge of the Titans

There's something about this little shooter - where you can construct ground forces, build a network of blaster turrets, and send forth a droid army - that puts a smile on our face.

Where is the Android Tablet edition? I have not renewed my printed copy as I was hoping to get the Android edition.

Yep easier to stick to just one format - you know the one who buys lots of adverts in many magazines.

Example:
I asked a former speaker importer why he didn't submit more of his (very good) speakers for review in OZ magazines.
Quick as a flash he answered:
"Because it costs me too much money in advertising to get a good review."

Think the Magazine/tablet/phone/other hardware business is different? If so, there's this grey bridge I can get you a good price on ...

Some rabid fans cloud the whole issue even more.

Get real Photo,

If they put out the version that was supported by the largest number of advertisers, it would be Android only.

What with the various Andoid supplier adds, Samsung adds everytime you click on a link...

I've often wondered if that's why every new Android or Samsung, Acer, ASUS device is 'going to take the fight to Apple' to use a phrase (or minor variation of) that seems to crop up regularly in what are passed off as reviews.

As for adds in general, you can't go anywhere without being bombarded with Android phone adds.

You certainly cannot remotely suggest that's why the iPad version is out first. What Apple adds?

Perhaps it just relates to the fact that over half of the total tablet market is currently iPad, and that iPad users buy something like twice as many apps as Android users. Plus of course the highest selling Android tablet is not even available in Australia, so in Australia iPad probably makes up 70+% of the market.

That is, the decision comes down to commercial reality. You always focus first on the market that will give you the best return (even when you're a pro-Android mag). That is if you have any commercial brain!

Hi cfra and photohounds, the the link to the Android edition is up top of the story, just under the heading "Get the digital edition for Android and PC". Let us know what you think, keen to see how Android users are finding this version.

Already subscribed to the Zinio version already. Is that what's meant by 'android version'?

Zinio is just a modified pdf with DRM which I thought you wouldn't have a bar of?

Or is it only imagined Apple DRM that you object to?

Hi photohounds, yes Zinio is the downloadable app for reading PC & Tech Authority on Android and PC.
