Opera 11.61 now available on the stable release channel; 50+ fixes

The latest addition to the stable release channel for Opera is Opera 11.61. Get the download here.

The latest Opera update includes more than fifty security and stability enhancements and is recommended for all users – you can either wait for the automatic updater to occur, or you can force a manual check and update from the Help menu. Two of the most important changes to the browser see a couple of on-going scripting problems being fixed, but there are also a large number of additional tweaks that address issues with various aspects of the program.

From a user interface point of view, there have been tweaks that fix problems such as incorrectly sized dialogs, incorrect icons and poor handling of fullscreen mode in Windows XP. Also fixed are a number of crash scenarios and better handling of third party skins. Users of previous versions of Opera have reported problems with a number of specific web sites including PayPal, NFL.com and others, and these crashes and freezes have now been fixed.

Opera 11.61 fixes a number of known problems with the browser

All of these fixes are worth of note, but it is the security fixes that are the most important. One particular issue means that it was possible for a script running on one site to manipulate another page, while another privacy problem could have revealed the location of locally stored files. The first of these problems had previously been assigned a High severity label, and while the second issue was only of Low severity, it is still something that users will be pleased to see addressed.

Other problems that have been addressed include Captcha images failing to refresh when a page is refreshed, issues that prevented the delivery of email temperamental email checking when multiple accounts are being used. Whether you have noticed that you have been experiencing any of these problems or not, it is always important to keep your browser updated with the very latest version, so make sure that you have this update installed.

You can find out more and download the latest version of the browser by paying a visit to the Opera review page.
