Jobs was interested in "light field" camera technology

Of all the things that captured Steve Jobs' attention, one stands out with potential to change the way we take photos.

An upcoming book called ‘Inside Apple’ by author Adam Lashinsky has revealed that Steve Jobs showed an interest in Lytro’s light field camera technology, 9to5mac reports.

Lytro unveiled the world’s first light field camera in October and made quite a buzz in the techosphere, thanks to its ability to focus on image subjects after a photo had already been taken.

The Apple co-founder met with Lytro’s CEO Ren Ng and requested an email outlining three things the innovative camera company would like to do with Apple, suggesting that there could already be blueprints in the works for an iPhone with Lytro optics built-in. A Lytro camcorder is also a possibility.

A phone from anyone featuring some of this technology would surely make for the death of the pocket camera.

Let's see who gets there first.

It seems like a hoax to me. There are only 5 images I can see on the website, and the main (central) one is flawed: The silver bauble shows a reflection of people outside a window, ie., in the distance, yet the focus of those people is the same as that of the ornamentation of the bauble. The focus should change as if the people are in the distance, that is, focussing on more distant objects in the scene should make the bauble's decorations MORE blurred, and the people reflected LESS blurred. We'll see on April 1st I guess...

Don't know how you arrive at that conclusion.

There are far more than 5 images for starters.

The camera and the tech behind it has been discussed in depth at a number of tech sites.

If it's a hoax, it's a monumental one that has sucked in a good part of the tech community, incuding some journals that have had a hands on.
