Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook launched as "world's thinnest" – for now

But with CES launches starting today, how long will the 13.3 incher keep its crown?

Acer has kicked off the CES 2012 Ultrabook announcements with details of the Aspire S5 – a skinny 15mm thick, 13.3in Ultrabook with a (mystery) Intel Core processor, SSD storage and USB 3.0, HDMI and Thunderbolt ports hidden below a MagicFlip port panel below the S5's hinge.

The Aspire S5 – out in mid-2012 – weighs just 1.35kg despite a magnesium alloy and brushed metal back. And Acer has also packed in its Instant On tech to make sure its latest Ultrabook wakes up from sleep mode in just 1.5 seconds. Plus, to make sure you're never out of juice the Aspire S5 has a PowerSmart battery pack which Acer reckons will last you three times longer than usual. Let the battle of the CES 2012 Ultrabooks commence.
