The Steam sale is something of a big deal for the 2.5 million or so usually users that can be found online at any one time.
If you're already a user, or looking for a reason to try the service, the sale that's on right now is as good a reason as any. There are hundreds of games on sale over the weekend, with some pretty excellent daily deals popping up on the front page of the Steam store as well. Case in point: Portal 2 - which our labs editor John Gillooly described as one of the most "laugh out loud " games ever made - is now at 66% off, on sale for US$10.19.
Other picks for today include Mass Effect 2 for US$4.99 and Call of Duty Black Ops for US$44.99. At $16.99 you could even use this as an excuse to try Duke Nukem Forever.
John's tip is the indie tower defense game Orc's Must Die, made by former Age of Empires developers and on sale for a pretty stunning $US 3.75, even more impressive when you realise it was only released recently.
If you haven't used Steam, you download the 1.5MB Steam installer, which as we know, is no longer just for PC owners. Downloads may use up some people's download quota, but there is a tip at the end of this story for getting around this.
