TuneUp Utilities 2012 extends laptop battery life and reduces clutter

TuneUp Utilities 2012 provides over 30 different tools for optimising and maintaining your Windows machine. Get the free trial here.

The only way to stop your PC’s performance degrading over time is to stop using it. That’s not really a practical option, so the next best thing is to use suitable optimisation software that reduces clutter and ensures that all systems are running as well as they can be.

The latest release of TuneUp Utilities 2012 provides you with over 30 different tools for optimising and maintaining your Windows machine to keep it humming along nicely. It costs $49.95, but a free trial is available for testing purposes prior to purchase.

Recent improvements recognise the move to portable computing and hence concentrate on laptop performance. TuneUp Economy mode ensure that you get the best battery life possible. On a desktop you can use it to reduce power consumption and hence your electricity bill and carbon footprint. It works by reducing your PC’s processor performance during basic tasks, turning off any energy hogging programs and reducing the power sent to connected devices while the mode’s enabled.

Also new is the TuneUp Program Deactivator. This identifies unnecessary background programs running that serve to slow your machine down. In the past you’ve needed to decide what to disable to get the best performance, but now the program provides a fully automatic mode. There’s no need to be aware of each running process to improve performance, TuneUp Program Deactivator can do all the hard work for you.

Other utilities ensure top performance, like a built in disk defragmenter to ensure data fragmentation doesn’t slow you down. Turbo Mode turns off invisible features in Windows to give you a quick power boost. You can also use TuneUp Startup Manager to remove unnecessary startup programs and StartUp Optimizer to improve startup and shut down speeds.

It’s not all about performance. TuneUP Utilities 2012 includes an undelete utility to recover accidentally deleted files and a secure wipe tool to ensure that sensitive files can be fully deleted. There are also analysis and reporting tools to test your hardware and software and some nifty personalisation utilities.

TuneUp Utilities 2012 is available as a free trial download for PCs running Windows XP or later. The full version costs $49.95.
