Tech Deals: Get a Full HD Toshiba camcorder for $199

Catch of the Day is currently selling the Toshiba Camileo X100 camcorder for $199: 60% off the original RRP.

As Australia prepares for another sticky summer, now's the time to shop for camcorders in preparation for the holiday season. Here's a deal we spotted that won't break the Christmas coffers.

For a limited time, the online retail site Catch of the Day is selling Toshiba's Full HD Camileo X100 camcorder for $199. That's $300 off the original recommended retails price of $499.

Product highlights include a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor with 10x optical zoom lens, Full HD 1080p recording, a 16MP still-image mode with inbuilt flash, 4GB of internal memory and an HDMI output. It also comes with a 3in LCD touchscreen (which could be either a good or bad thing, depending on how responsive it is).

It's worth noting that we haven't actually tested this camcorder ourselves - and Toshiba isn't exactly a household name when it comes to camcorders. Nonetheless, the specifications are on paper acceptable for the asking price.

In any event, it's not the only cheap HD camcorder doing the rounds. Other affordable models include the Kogan Ultra-Zoom Touchscreen Full HD Video Camera ($249) which comes with a 23x optical zoom and the Mellennius 3D High Definition Digital Video Camera  ($149) which sports 3D shooting capabilities.

If you want the Toshiba model though, you'll need to be quick - the deal is set to end in under 24 hours. For more information on the Toshiba Camileo X100, visit the Catch of the Day website.
