NSW Attorney backs R18 rating!

NSW Attorney backs R18 rating!

Essential linkage: It's good news gamers hoping for a more mature and sensible rating system for video games, as NSW Attorney General's office backs an R18 rating.

Good news, everybody! Our mates over at ABC News and Technology have just scooped an announcement from the NSW Attorney General - Greg Smith, our AG, is backing an R18 rating categery for games.

This means that all the Attorneys General for every state in the country now back the move. AG Smith abstained from the vote, but has now announced his stance - and we like it! Here's an excerpt from the statement posted in whole over on Aunty:

Cabinet has now given its "in-principle" support for the introduction of the R18+ rating.

"Few people would dispute the value of a classification system that helps keep adult material beyond the reach of children," Mr Smith said.

"With strong classification guidelines in place, an R18+ rating should result in violent games currently rated MA15+ in Australia being reclassified as adults-only, as they already are in many other countries. ''

Bra-vo. For the full story, be sure to click on over. But for now, let's all give out a giant woot for this great news.
