Last week, we headed down to Melbourne to see Alienware's "Live Dimension Reality" show; a live film shoot that incorporated 3D projection mapping, live action stunts, special effects and assorted pyrotechnics into three action-packed minutes.
The theatrical demonstration depicts a mysterious alien artifact (which looks like a heavily-modded caravan) battling against human soldiers, with some impressive HD rendering on display. The overall effect was an attempt to "create the feeling of being inside a computer game", the PC manufacturer explains.
Alienware computers were used exclusively to create the 3D projection mapping that flashes across the stage and caravan walls. A pair of machines rendered 2400 high-definition (HD) frames per day over four weeks to create the impressive graphics; with the end result blasted at the audience through ten HD projectors.
