Steam sales are big events – it seems that if one is patient enough one can avoid paying for anything at full price! – and today's launch of the Summer Camp sale is perhaps the biggest yet.
It's an interesting fusion of the Treasure Hunt event and Christmas sales of December 2010, with a gigantic swathe of games on sale alongside specific objectives to complete, in return for "Camp Activity" goodies.
New missions, characters, maps and more. Very cool!
However the goodies aren't limited to amusing hats or street cred, but rather for every three achievements you gain you're able to net yourself limited-edition DLC for a wide range of games.
On top of the goodies you can find the usual selection of heavily-discounted games alongside daily specials that change every day from July 1 to July 11.
The daily specials are often incredible value, and are well worth perusing.
For those lucky enough to have unmetered internet the world is their oyster; for those still on quotas you'll have to be more choosy. Here's a few tips on how to get the most bang for your buck:
- Wishlist recent games in the catalogue and wait until the last day of the sale in case they're featured as a highly-discounted daily special.
- Consider buying developer collections if you're buying a few of their games; it might not cost much more and you could score a gem or two you hadn't heard of.
- Check SteamPrices.com and compare regional prices – though we're not going to tell you how to purchase from other Steam regions, in many cases you'll be able to shave even more off the price.
Be sure to point your mates here to help them get the most out of Steam's Summer camp sale!
