Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone available now on Telstra Next G network

Samsung has announced the availability of its Samsung Galaxy Ace in Australia; an Android 2.2 smartphone exclusive to the Telstra Next G network.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace can be viewed as an affordable alternative to Samsung’s premium-level Galaxy S II, which hits stores next week. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S II, it lacks a dual core CPU (an 800Mhz processor is used instead) and comes with a lower-resolution camera (5 megapixels).

That said, the Galaxy Ace still comes with a host of consumer-friendly features, including a 3.5-inch TFT-LCD touch screen, Google voice search, turn-by-turn navigation powered by Navigon, ThinkFree’s document viewer and a 3.5-millimetre headphone jack.

Another notable highlight is the Samsung Social Hub, which allows you to view SMS, IM, emails and contacts together in a single layout.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace can be purchased through Telstra for $0 upfront on a $59 monthly plan (over 24 months), which includes $550 worth of included monthly calls and 1.5GB of data. Alternatively, you can buy  the phone outright for $528.

Hands on with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy S II

“The Samsung Galaxy Ace offers a unique take on the Android smartphone experience, combining performance and functionality in a sleek design,” said Tyler McGee, VP Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia.

With dimensions of 112.4x59.9x11.5mm, the Samsung Galaxy Ace is slightly smaller than most high-end smartphones, which is good news for people with tiny pockets.
