The Blu-Ray box: 9-disc Star Wars set on the way

The Blu-Ray box: 9-disc Star Wars set on the way

Now it's time for Star Wars to get the Blu-Ray treatment, with a nine disc set to be released on September 14.

With all the downloading that's going on via BitTorrent, it's no wonder we're seeing increasingly elaborate Blu-Ray and DVD box sets.

Last year we saw the Alien Anthology on Blu-Ray, with 60 hours of special features (not all of it new material, mind you), and 12000 images, plus some fancy menu systems for browsing it all.

Now it's time for Star Wars to get the Blu-Ray treatment, with a nine disc set being released on September 14. The set includes each of the six movies with 6.1 DTS Surround Sound, plus more than 40 hours of special features. Expect a fair amount of this to be previously-seen material, but the collection does include the 2010 documentary, A Conversation with the Masters: The Empire Strikes Back 30 Years Later.

Also notable is the inclusion of a commentary for The Empire Strikes Back with George Lucas, Carrie Fisher and Irvin Kershner.

For those not willing to buy the large disc set, Episodes I-III and IV-VI will be available separately.

Need to include the Clone Wars movie and TV series.

But at least it is coming.... why has it taken so long?
