Nintendo 3DS tops handheld sales in Australia

The Nintendo 3DS has leapt to the head of the handheld pack, shifting 31,000 units in four days

Nintendo Australia has released the first sales figures for its 3DS handheld console, which purportedly shifted 31,000 units in just four days.

“This gives Nintendo 3DS the record for best handheld launch in Australia,” Nintendo explained in a press release. It also holds the record for second-fastest selling console (the Nintendo Wii beat it to the top spot by one thousand units).

The Nintendo 3DS, which allows gamers to play in 3D without the need for glasses, launched in Australia on March 31. The device has been a big success for Nintendo, with over two million units sold worldwide since the system launched.
