Friday Linky Fun

Friday Linky Fun

As new issue week ends, we'd like to remind you all to buy our mag. Oh, and also to read up on the Hobbit, Henry Cavill and, of course, Star Wars.

Given that Hollywood seems to have pretty much given up on developing new products, and retreated entirely into remake-and-adaptation mode, we’re glad that someone has finally stepped up and started listing off what we can expect to re-see over the next couple of years. This list focuses mostly on 80’s comedies, but it’s enough to have us fearing for Weird Science…

One movie that is definitely being remade is Superman, and that’s getting Henry Cavill a whole lot of attention. This interview with him is mostly about the upcoming Immortal, but it’s definitely worth a read if you’re curious about the world’s latest superhero.

And on the adaptations front, David Hayter of X-Men fame has been picked to bring Anne McCaffrey’s sci-fi fanstasy novel Dragonriders of Pern to the big screen, as Dragonflight. We’re guessing that the powers that be have spotted a 22-book series that may well keep them in sequels for a very, very long time.

With the release of Thor just a few days away (and on the eve of a five-day weekend to boot), the publicity machine is hitting full speed. This featurette contains yet more new footage to whet any yet-to-be-whetted appetites.

Fans of the X-Men franchise should check out this piece, which rounds up the many bits of X-Menny news that have hit the wires this past week. From a First Class sequel to The Wolverine to the latest on Deadpool, they’ve got it all.

If Hobbits are more your thing, perhaps the most unmissable thing on the net today is Peter Jackson’s first on-set video. It goes for a very generous ten minutes and has got fanboys and causal supporters alike hairy-footed in excitement.

Onto TV news, it’s looking more and more like Red Dwarf will be getting another season. As folks who remember the show fondly from our teenage years, we’re really not sure that this is a good thing, but we’ll probably check it out in any case. Nostalgia is a powerful, powerful thing - just ask any Hollywood producer!

We’re rather fond of Doctor Who in these parts, but even we’ll admit that the powers of the Sonic Screwdriver stretch credibility just a little bit (which, given this is a show that features Van Gogh fighting invisible turkey-lizard demons, is saying something). And former Doctor Peter Davidson agrees.

Other things that amused us on the net this week include this Venn diagram of what geeks, goths and jocks like and, to finish us off,  MightyGodKing’s write-up of what Star Wars could have been, had George Lucas looked elsewhere for his inspiration. And since that meets our weekly Star Wars quote, consider us off the clock – happy weekends, Atomicans!
