IBM has announced the launch of Start Jam, a mass-online forum in which industry leaders will discuss sustainability and its link to the future of business.
The forum, running from 8am tomorrow until 5pm on Thursday, will be enabled by IBM’s ‘Jam’ online platform technology.
The participants of Start Jam will be, according to IBM, “hundreds of senior decision makers” from UK private and public business. Among them will be representatives from Citigroup, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and The Ellen MacArthur foundation.
The participants will debate new business strategies that generate benefits, focusing on the creation of plausible business ideas based on social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Stephen Leonard, chief executive (CEO) of IBM in the UK and Ireland, emphasised the importance of implementing balanced sustainability in business models.
"We believe the mandate for sustainable action is clear,” Leonard said, “but sustainability has to be balanced across the social and economic aspects of society as well as environmental.”
The Start Jam online forum is the natural successor of the IBM Summit at Start, a business gathering which took place in September last year as a result of the collaboration of IBM and HRH The Prince of Wales.
The objective was to promote sustainable living and brought together a number of industry leaders to push ideas forward.
