My Book Studio Edition II gives Mac users 6TB to fill

My Book Studio Edition II gives Mac users 6TB to fill

Western Digital is pitching it's new dual-drive Western Digital My Book at people who work with ridiculously big movie and photo files.

It's not the same as building your own NAS box, but if you're slowly accumulating a large collection of video files or high resolution images, then the new My Book Studio Edition II is a quick way to find 6TB of extra space.

The $719 drive is Apple Time Machine compatible and Western Digital claims the fanless design uses one-third less the power of "standard" external dual drives.

New Macbook owners might be interested to know this drive doesn't use the new Thunderbolt connection, which would mean much quicker transfer speeds. Instead the drive supports USB 2.0, FireWire 800/400 and eSATA.
While it is specifically targeted at Mac users, the My Book Studio Edition II can be formatted for use with Windows 7 and Windows Vista machines.
