Lite-on finds new reason to get excited about DVD burners

The eNAU series of 8x external DVD burners stand out a mile with cutomisable cover plates.

The fashion  police are never far way when tech companies attempt to break free from their beige design constraints. We've seen green laptops that smell like pine forests, compact cameras with camouflage shells, and Vivienne Tam-designed laptops.

Now Lite-on has announced an external DVD burner with design inserts for adding a dose of flair to your peripheral collection. The drive comes with pre-designed inserts, or you can create your own using photos or your own original designs.

There are two versions of the Lite-On eNAU drives - the eNAU608 ($75) and eNAU508 ($69). The eNAU608 comes with LightScribe direct disc labelling technology for DVDs and CDs; otherwise, both drives are identical.

The drive itself is an 8x speed burner and is USB powered - making it potentially useful as an accessory for tablets. It also allows burning of circular labels on the data side of the disc, using the LabelTag system.

The Lite-on eNAU608 and eNAU508 are both available at JB Hi-Fi. [UPDATE: We've since been contacted with news that the eNAU608 and eNAU508 will be available in Australia next month. Stockists to be confirmed.]
