Apple staffer: iPad 2 has problems, wait for iPad 3

Apple staffer: iPad 2 has problems, wait for iPad 3

Rumours of the iPad 3 undermine launch of second generation tablet, with an Apple staffer warning: "don't get your hopes up too high".

Apple product launches normally hold near mystical status, but the launch of the iPad 2 later today has already been undermined by future gazing toward the next version of the tablet.

The iPad 2 will feature only minor modifications and improvements and people looking for a major leap forward in tablet technology should wait for the next version, according to sources quoted by the Cult of Mac blog.

The Cult of Mac quoted an Apple staffer who said that development problems in version two would mean it was a minor upgrade that might leave Apple fans disappointed.

“For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high,” the blog quoted the source as saying. “That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about.”

The iPad 2 was announced earlier today. It features a thinner body, a HDMI port and a faster processor.

No one said it HAS problems per your healine - just someone SUPPOSEDLY said there were development problems - dramatic headlines that do not convey the truth. More examples of the lack of journalistic integrity in your mag!

the product is shipping and a huge success given so many can't get them.

Where's the discrepancy?

Talk about over the top reaction..

The headline says that the item HAS problems, not that there were problems in development.

Amazing how these 'anonymous' sources get treated as gospel.

Reality is that there appears to be every reason to make a song and dance about the iPad 2. It's lighter Much faster, better battery life than any other tablet (OK if you don't use flash WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE on the Xoom, you get close). Sure, the V3 will be better, as will V4, but there is no earthly reason to wait for another 12 months.

PC&A continuing to have this patently incorrect headline on their site just further displays their continuing lack of credibility.

If you don't like it, don't read it and move along. I doubt your posts are going to change the minds of anyone that does.

If someone really wnats an ipad, they will buy an ipad2. Those who wait for the ipad3, will suddenly decide to wait for the promised new features on the ipad4. in other words, they will never end up buying an ipad at all.

Blockcentre,

The whole point of my post is that the headline is patently incorrect and, again this mag that has a VERY poor record of journalistic accuracy goes for the dramatic headline regardless of fact. You might be happy for this mag to be seemingly 'economical' with facts, I'm not.

Petergaskin, you're right on the money.

For the record, I decided to get one, having sat out the whole tablet mania last year. Being in a regional centre, having made the decision, I just walked up to the local Myer at 4.30 and walked out with a 64G 3G by 5:15. Also for the record, I looked closely at the (porky and slow) Samsung, considered the vapourware Xoom, and RIM plus HP. I notice that Samsung have withdrawn their product and will be releasing something more like the iPad2 in a few months.

None of the alternatives gave any reason to wait. I don't need or want the battery hog Flash. We have a supplier web site all based on Flash that we have to have open at all times, locks up Firefox, IE and Safari- your name, it at least once a day - don't need that sort of crap software. We refuse to put Flash on any of the sites we develop for customers.

After a weekend of exploring it's bloody good. I can see what the noise was all about. Give you an example, sending mail through our Exchange server within 5 minutes of opening the box - Can't even get close to that with our Win7 notebooks, so puts the lie to Microsoft claims you need a Win Tablet to do business work.

Just for further record - We (our business) used to get PCA every month. Some months back one of our staff pointed out a glaring lack of fact in an editorial. The more we looked, the more we saw to question.

We no longer get the mag, but PCA still send us 'news' emails, and where we see inaccuracies, we point them out.

We now subscribe to an electronic edition of US magazine to get more accurate reporting on technology. Sad when you have to send money overseas to get more believable tech new.
