Video: What is so good about Sandy Bridge?

At Intel's local launch of the second generation Core I processors this week we had a chance to ask Intel Vice President Mooly Eden just what makes these new CPUs so special.

Earlier this week Intel held the local launch for its second generation core I processors (codenamed Sandy Bridge). Unlike previous launches, this was Intel in full flight, with the entirety of its CES presentation and demonstrations being shown.

The presentation featured Intel Vice President Mooly Eden, who was one of the team responsible for Centrino and now manages Intel’s PC Client Group.

The wide ranging presentation covered a lot of the key features of the new processors, including the impressive jump in integrated graphics performance that the CPU brings and the importance of the Turbo technology used to boost performance when it counts. Eden also covered technologies like Intel’s Quick Sync video transcoding and gave us a glimpse at some in development technology designed to take advantage of the video functionality in Sandy Bridge.

The entire presentation occupied an entertaining one and a half hours, and covered a lot of ground. Rather than recreate that experience we grabbed a few moments after the presentation with Mooly and asked him just what features of Sandy Bridge are the most compelling for consumers. The answer is below.

This fool said precisely NOTHING. We need to know cache size, number of cores, memory speed, etc. Also, the interviewer should take a few lessons. One 'um' is too many. Sorry, PCA, I love your stuff but this I rate EPIC FAIL.

When are both the manufacturers and the journalists who report on these products going to learn that silly names do not sell anything?

Personally if the manufacturer can not tell me what exactly their product does, and how well with comparative examples, I just walk away.

There are a whole lot more things to life than helping some incoherent idiot reduce his inventory.
