Comodo Internet Security 5.3 improves rootkit detection, adds IPv6

For those that refuse to pay for Internet security comes a new version of Comodo's free security software

Comodo has released  version 5.3.174622.1216 of their Internet Security product. Which may sound like it’s just some tedious maintenance release, but don’t be fooled – the program includes some significant developments.

This build includes a new rootkit scanner, for instance, which will detect and reveal hidden files, folders and Registry keys.

The regular antivirus engine has also been upgraded with new detection mechanisms for enhanced accuracy.

The firewall now offers full IPv6 support.

The virus signature database has been revamped, cutting its size significantly, which will also make for smaller updates that download more quickly.

And there are plenty of lesser, but still useful tweaks throughout the package. The suite now sensibly disables the Windows firewall and Windows Defender on installation, for instance. Comodo’s excellent cloud scanning technology is now enabled by default for manual scans. And the program comes with several skins, so you can customise its appearance to suit your system in just a few clicks.

One feature hasn’t changed, fortunately: Comodo Internet Security 5.3 is still free, and the new version is available for download now.
