TPG wins unlimited ADSL2+ reprieve

TPG wins unlimited ADSL2+ reprieve

The competition watchdog has lost its bid for an emergency injunction that would have prevented ISP TPG from advertising its $29.99 a month unlimited ADSL2+ service.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission filed the case against TPG last week and sought to have the case fast-tracked in the Federal Court in Victoria.

It alleged TPG had engaged in "false and misleading" conduct because the $29.99 plan actually cost $59.99 a month when factoring in a compulsory home line service.

And it sought "injunctions, pecuniary penalties, corrective advertising and costs" from TPG.

But Justice Donnell Ryan refused to grant the interlocutory injunction against the advertisements, concluding that he did "not regard the ACCC's case for final relief on the present state of the evidence, as a strong one", according to representatives of the ISP.

TPG's sales and marketing general manager Craig Levy said the ISP was "pleased with the outcome".

"Thousands of consumers are today enjoying TPG's great value internet and phone services," he said.

"We will continue to fairly bring these and other services to the attention of consumers into the future."

Dont see why TPG dont wnat to add to their ads - for TPG home pjhone users only. Seen it on ads from other telcos. So what is the problem with TPG being totally truthful.
Wopuldnt use TPG though - too many arguments over wife's mobile phone - when Soul was seperate entity. Their staff didnt know the law.
Its easy for a telco to lose future customers - maybe they shoudl think about that!

It's clearly stated on their website that you need to bundle it with a home phone. It's not as if they ripped people off. It was also on the fine print of the ads, if people bothered to read it.

TPG was the worst ever ISP that I have ever used - About half the time I had no connection and the rest of the time it was just 50% the speed - They blame everybody else except themselves - Telstra checked my house and line 7 or 8 times but TPG always said it was me - Indonesian Rubbish - Nobody even speaks English -

I swapped and read the fine print. What I didn't realise that although you connected at ADSL2+, the system doesn't run at ADSL2+ speeds, more like dial up speeds, and the tech support, I have been trying to call them for 2 weeks now, you cannot stay on line and wait, you must call back. WE all make mistakes in our lives and this is one!

Spotty, you should ask for assistance on their forums. There's official TPG reps on there all the time that are more than willing to help.

ADSL2+ speed is highly dependent on line length/noise, so you're never going to get the "full" speed.

@ .:Cyb3rGlitch - You try depending on this service for your Only ISP, and after 3 months of pulling your hair out you might get some idea of the false promises they always make - I paid an Exit Fee just to get rid of them and now (with an Aussie ISP) I am very happy - The forum is run by people who do not know what they are talking about in regards to Australian conditions ---

I'm using a TPG connection right now, and have been for three or so years. And TPG is an Australian company...

They merged. Both companies were/are Australian.

I have used TPG since dialup and have had no real issues to date, happy with my service, however I needed to change my phone provider {ACN,crap,my fault should have investigated carefully} So I thought I would give TPG ago with the lot. Being an exisisting custoner for eons I thought it would be a simple addition to my service. Nooooooo I have to cancel my exixting service and become a new client with all the extra services and cyber bulldust setup costs. Sorry, Craig Levy I'm going with Telstra.
I save about $200 bucks you loose about $100 bucks A MONTH, marketing not your strong point HUH!

If you are thinking of getting a TPG ADSL broadband line, think again.

I have been suffering from very poor service levels, continuous dropouts, and hours of no connectivity every day for the past few MONTHS.

If you look at their online forums (http://forum.tpg.com.au/viewforum.php?f=2) you will see that a large number of users have the same problem. Still TPG keeps sending out technicians to people's homes, to try and fix a problem that quite clearly belongs to the infrastructure instead.

You don't need to be a network engineer to understand that: you just need to skim through the forums and read a few posts to see that there is a clear pattern to this mess.

TPG echnicians hardly ever call back, their telephone support personnel only go through a predefined script (check A, B, C, etc), sometimes even TELSTRA gets involved (they own the physical infrastructure), but nobody seems to even attempt to tackle the problem in a systematic, methodical and analytical way.
