Seeking Australia's top geek

Seeking Australia's top geek

Want to win a trip to South by Southwest, Comic Con, the Consumer Electronics Show, or Penny Arcade Con 2011? Easy: just prove that you are Australia's top geek!

iiNet is on the hunt for Australia's Top Geek, and it's offering prizes that involve a trip to your favourite geek gathering in the US as a lure.

The iiNet Top Geek search will see geeks from all walks of life embrace their talents and compete for the title and major prize – an all expenses paid trip to the United States to attend one of four ‘geek’ events including Comic Con, Consumer Electronic Show (CES), South by Southwest (SXSW) or Penny Arcade Expo (PAX).

To win, you need to produce a short video detailing exactly why you are the geekiest geek in geektown, and the judging panel will then put finalists through their paces with a series of geeky challenges.

The winner will be announced in February -- too late for CES 2011, but you'd get plenty of time to plan for CES 2012.

The inspiratin for the competition was the passionate geeky on display among the iiNet corporate team.

“At iiNet, we are surrounded by passionate people who are really good at what they do. Their dedication and eagerness to learn has showed us that being a ‘geek’ requires intelligence, confidence and an element of ‘cool’.

iiNet stresses that "geek" doesn't just mean computer geek:  “The competition is open to any type of geek – whether you’re a skater girl, manga-loving otaku, computer nerd, music fan, or history buff – we want to hear from you." said a spokesperson, in a press release about the competition.
