The diminutive storage device is no bigger than a paper clip and reaches capacity of 16GB.

SanDisk has launched a USB Flash drive which it claims is no bigger than a paper clip and as light as a penny.

The Cruzer Blade is designed to be used as a keychain accessory or smartphone dongle, but should appeal to the business market thanks to its high storage capacities of 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.

SanDisk said that a 4GB USB Flash drive translates to about 1,000 music tracks, 1,200 high resolution images or eight hours of video. That should extrapolate to hundreds of thousands of PowerPoint slides.

"At half the size of some other USB drives, our compact Cruzer Blade provides consumers with highly portable storage at great value," said Kent Perry, director of retail product marketing at SanDisk.

"The drive lets users transfer their digital data quickly between computers, and delivers a storage boost to devices such as netbooks that often need additional memory but are difficult to upgrade easily."

The Cruzer Blade is available overseas from SanDisk's online retail store with 2GB or 16GB. We'll bring you more information on local availability as soon as it comes to hand.

"I bought a 16GB one in Parramatta last week - it happened to be there when I wanted a small USB flash drive. Pros: tiny and very light Cons: flimsy feeling plastic housing, very slow. Robocopying..."

I don't know where you get your information from, but a 4GB one of these has been available for months from my local officeworks. So i don't see how this can be 'unveiled' if it has existed in shops for months.

I bought a 16GB one in Parramatta last week - it happened to be there when I wanted a small USB flash drive.
Pros: tiny and very light
Cons: flimsy feeling plastic housing, very slow.

Robocopying an iso image from XP was transferring at about 2 to 3MB/s. Not very excited about filling my '16GB' drive at those rates. Think I'll reserve it for small files and grab something fast for the larger files.
