Modu is world's lightest phone

The Modu handset weighs just 40.1g and is officially recognised as the lightest phone in the world.

Modu has finally released its Modu 1 handset in the UK, a device which is recognised by Guinness World Records as the lightest phone on the planet.

The Modu 1 weighs 40.1g, measures just 72.1mm x 37.6mm x 7.8mm, and comes with a 1.3in OLED display with 65,000 colours and a built-in speaker.

The device features a 3.2-megapixel camera with 3.2x digital zoom, and Bluetooth 1.2 connectivity. It is also capable of doubling as a music player and a mass storage device as it has 2GB of internal memory.

Users can modify the phone's design and features by inserting the Modu 1 into a 'jacket', the firm said.

Online retailer PurelyGadgets is selling the Modu 1 exclusively for £129.99 (approximately $225).

Modu buyers can also purchase jackets for the phone, which come in all shapes and sizes including night and sport versions.

The device has been available in Israel for over a year, and will face competition from the iPhone 4 (yet to arrive in Australia), Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire.

Glad to hear it comes with "a built-in speaker" - wouldn't be much use as phone without one!
