Fuji-Xerox Printers has launched a channel sales promotion whereby it would offer a years supply of black and white toner for free on its Phaser 8400 printer, which was released in July.

The promotion - a move that the company said fills the need for users to print monochrome pages cost-effectively on colour machines - applies to 8400s sold between 1 November and 17 December.

The amount of black ink supplied would be enough to last for one year's normal operation or to print 68,000 pages of printing (based on five percent coverage), the company said.

The ink would normally cost around $1600 (ex.tax) for that amount of pages, said Paul Harman, regional sales manager for Fuji-Xerox Printers.

"The idea of the program is to reinforce the value proposition to the channel and end users that there is a lot of value associated in dealing with Fuji-Xerox," he said.

In addition, the company last month also added free on-site warranties for its 7300 and 7750 A3 printers, Harman said.

"It's a difficult time of the year [for sales] unless you have some tactical [programs] to keep the reseller's interested," he said. "By giving [resellers] some resources to go out and look at printers we [generate] some investment in our products," he said.
