It sounds good, but...yep Australia's limited Internet service would make you suffer if you try to download 20+ GBs HD movie. As for myself, I've got an Optus monthly plan of only 20GB(20000MB actually, uploads included), so SONY can count me out of this.

Even if you had the download amount, how long do you think it would take to download a 20gb hd movie?
Who has the time to wait that long?

PaytonLiu, AAPT (and soon TPG) offer unlimited broadband services, so it's feasible.

Then as petergaskin said, the speed is big problem. According to http://www.speedtest.net/global.php#0 Australia ranks 43 in the world with average download speed of 5.33Mb/s, but that includes schools, universities and corporations. I can't find out the average household internet download speed, and I don't think it's practical to bring your PS3 to places like universities and companies.
My maximum download speed is 220KByes/sec at around 2:00AM, and it's not my right to change the ISP due to ownership issue.

i'd be happy if the PS3 could play some higher def rips I've done. Handbrake is good for creating anamorphic MP4 files which can, in theory (and bit rate), look better than the standard 720xwhatever rips we are currently limited to.

if Sony up the codecs to handle higher res files (which devices like Western Digital media boxes easily handle) it would be great.

better than downloading huge high-res files :)
