Mac support for Steam games landing in April

Steam is bringing its games downloads to Apple Macs in April, giving the users of the platform access to favourites such as Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and Portal

Valve has announced it will be bringing its popular gaming service Steam to the Mac, giving Apple users access to games previously out of their reach.

Mac users will soon be able to access Steam's library of games for download, including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life, bringing gaming to the Mac platform more than ever before.

Steamworks for the Mac will support all of the Steamworks APIs, and a new feature called Steam Play will see users able to play any game they've purchased on both platforms free of charge.

Even better, when used in combination with the Steam Cloud, you could be playing a game on the PC and then pick it up in the same place on your Mac.

Mac users needn't worry about coming second place to PC gamers too – any game releases will arrive simultaneously on Mac, PC and Xbox 360, as will any updates to the service, and Valve even confirmed Portal 2 will be the first release to land for both platforms.

Head over to the Steam website to check out what games are available – Mac support is expected to land in April, so get your shopping list ready.
