Sony has said up to half of its TVs will be 3D capable by 2012, showing the company's confidence in adding an extra dimension to its products
Showing further confidence in 3D technology, Sony has said it expects its 3DTV offering to jump to between 30 and 50% of all the TVs it sells by the financial year starting April 2012.
The company first confirmed its 2010 plans for 3D-capable Bravia televisions in September, and also outed ideas for stuffing the technology into its Blu-ray players, VAIO laptops and PS3 as well.
The good news is that Hiroshi Yoshioka, executive deputy president of Sony, said that the additional parts needed to turn a regular television into an 3D-packing TV set won't add much extra on to the cost.
In fact, it seems that the glasses will be the pricey part to the whole thing, and could cost up to $200 each. The thinking behind this is allowing Sony to keep prices competitive, allowing users to access to additional functionality as and when they want to.
However, Yoshioka was apparently quick to stress that pricing has not been decided, and glasses may well be offered in bundles with the TVs as well.
