BlackBerry chases teens with pre-paid offer

Forget the corporate tie, BlackBerry has teamed up with Boost to aim the smartphone at celebrity-mad teens with a pre-paid offer

Boost's latest pre paid deal speaks volumes at just how far the BlackBerry wants to shift its image from the office boardroom to the mainstream.

The Boost Mobile BlackBerry Pre Paid utilises its own instant messaging service - combining traditional chat programs like MSN and AOL with the classic BlackBerry email interface.  The deal comes with a Blackberry Pearl 8120, which isn't the star of the BlackBerry range, and has a 2MP camera, Wi-Fi, MP3 and FM player.

Boost, (which is offered through the Optus network) are calling their BlackBerry data plan 'unlimited';  a big advantage if you consider the cost of regular 3G smartphone deals going around.

But, dig a little deeper into the fine print and you'll notice the usual 'fair go' policy is applied to the 'unlimited' deal and you'll need to connect to the 'BlackBerry Super Cap.

Even so, if you've got a spare $299 and possess a devout interest in whatever wares Will I Am and Joel and Benjii Madden are promoting, then this might be the phone for you.

For more info, Boost have the details.
