According to Electronista, the launch of Windows 7 a week ago failed to dent Apple's meteoric rise in the operating system market in October.
Although the Microsoft OS was on sale for a staggering nine days last month, Windows' combined share of Internet traffic actually dropped to 92.52 per cent while Mac OS X increased to control a whopping 5.27 per cent of the market.
Since Windows 7 has been out it's totally failed to take more than 2.15 per cent of the market.
According to Electronista this means that Windows XP users are not upgrading to Windows 7 but are signing up for Snow Leopard.
After failing to stop the march of the mighty Apple, Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer apparently retreated to his library with brandy and a revolver.
The magazine said that this significant increase in Apple's fortunes was because Microsoft refused to let XP users upgrade directly without a clean install.
Apple has been making much of this in its adverts, pointing out that if people are going to have to do that then they might as well pay thousands of dollars for a Mac with Snow Leopard installed.
Of course this is much more economical than spending more than a hundred dollars for a full version of Windows 7.
